Flexible, No-Fuss Hoof Boots Designed by a Farrier!

With its huge size range and innovative open sided design, Scoot Boot sets itself apart from other hoof boots. If your horse is barefoot and needs a little extra grip or protection while out on the trail or in the show ring, look no further. From minis to drafts, there's bound to be a perfect size for your horse. This unique design has no fabric or nylon to wear down and collect water, plus the sole flexes for a much easier experience when putting the boots on and taking them off after your ride. Be sure to check the size chart (found under the label/Size Info tab of Scoot Boot Original and Scoot Boot Slims or scroll down to the bottom of this article) and take measurements within 2 weeks of a trim by your farrier for the most accurate fit. Check out the fitting video below for details.

While they are flexible, Scoot Boots still provide great protection and security on the trail. They make easy work of big rocks and hills, plus the tread adds extra grip. Each pair of Scoot Boots includes a set of trail gaiters. Not all horses need the gaiters, but they provide a bit of extra cushion and can be great for the initial break in of your new Scoot Boots. Many great accessories are also available to modify the fit and function of your boots like the Endurance gaiter, Scoot Boot Pads and Ice Studs. Here's a quick tutorial on how to apply trail gaiters.

Quick tip for riders who may have arthritis or other issues with their hands: the front straps are the key to keeping your Scoot Boots on and secure in all types of terrain which can make them tricky to apply, but most of us keep a hoof pick nearby so this versatile tool can be used to stretch the straps quickly and easily.

Every Scoot Boot and Accessory comes with a 90-Day warranty. You are also entitled to have your Scoots repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Find more details on the warranty and manufacturer policies here.

While Scoot Boots are great for most horses, those with extra high heels or very steep-walled hooves (i.e. mules) are likely not suitable for Scoot Boots. Check out all our other hoof boots and see if there may be a better option for your horse here.

If you've found that your horse needs just a tiny bit of adjustment, even with the optional added accessories above, Scoot Boots can also be stretched with a heat gun. This is especially common for horses with large or high heel bulbs.

Please note: if done carefully and according to the video directions, your Scoot Boots will not lose their durability or integrity, but this process will void the manufacturer warranty.

IMPORTANT TIPS FOR USING THE SCOOT BOOT SIZING CHART:

  • We recommend measuring in mm or converting measurements taken in inches to mm before referencing the sizing chart.
  • The sizing chart is designed to be referenced right after a fresh trim (no more than 2 weeks out) but it is calibrated to account for growth between trims.
  • The measurements ranges in the sizing chart are designed to reflect the size of a hoof with a correct barefoot trim, meaning the hoof has a rolled toe with a strong bevel to the wall and no extra length in the toe or heel (sizing will be distorted for hooves not successfully maintained with a natural trim).
  • Sizes increase in 5mm (3/16”) increments.
  • Perfectly round hooves will work in both Regular and Slim sizes with the Slims serving as a half size between the Regulars.
  • If you need Scoot Boots for both front and back hooves or two horses with similar measurements, we recommend starting with one pair and using it as a reference point to determine the other size that you need.

WHAT IF MY HORSE'S MEASUREMENTS DON'T FIT NICELY IN ONE OF THE SIZE RANGES?

  • General rounding rule: select the smaller boot size if you are between the size measurements. For example if your hoof length measurement is between 121mm (4 13/16”) and 124mm (4 15/16") long, select the hoof measurement of 120mm  (4 3/4”) on the chart meaning you would need size 3.
  • If your horse doesn't fit nicely within one of the sizing ranges, we highly recommend using a sizing kit - we find Scoot Boots work well on many hoof shapes, but often you'll need to try a few sizing shells to see exactly which size will work best.
  • For hooves that are different sizes: If your horse's two hooves have slightly different measurements (i.e. one hoof is in between sizes), select the boot size that matches the largest hoof. However, if one hoof is a full size smaller, we can special order Scoot Boots in singles for you.
  • For WIDE hooves: If your horse’s hooves are 10mm (3/8") wider than long you need to select the size from the ‘maximum’ width measurement and not length measurement (for example, if your hoof length is 110mm (4/18") and width is 120mm (4 3/4"), you select size 2). However, if your horse's hooves are wider than long you may have excess flare that should be addressed by appropriate barefoot trimming practices. Excess flare may cause the sizing to be off as the measurements of the bottom of the hoof will not reflect the overall volume of the hoof. If the hoof width exceeds the hoof length by more than 10mm (3/8"), then Scoot Boots may not be suitable for your horse.
  • For NARROW hooves: If the hoof length exceeds the hoof width by more than 10mm (3/8") then Scoot Boots may not be suitable for your horse.
